Looking forward to retirement next year, AAO President William L Rich III MD noted highlights from his 40 years in ophthalmology, including a 70 per cent reduction in blindness due to diabetic retinopathy and 50 per cent reduction in blindness due to glaucoma. Dr Rich emphasised the need for strong relationships with patients to ensure excellent ophthalmic care.
