Various complications can occur in phacoemulsifcation surgery but the worst case scenarios are dropped lenses and nuclei. Strategies to dealing with these difficult situations were discussed in depth at a video-based symposium on phaco nightmares and worst case scenarios chaired by Amar Agarwal. Thomas Kohnen and Athiya Agarwal.
Delegates were given a master-class in dealing with a range of troublesome surgery cases such as dropped intraocular lenses, subluxated lenses, posterior polar cataracts, and colobomas. Other techniques were shown in the management of intraoperative floppy iris syndrome, and implantation of glued IOLs with endocapsular rings and capsule retractors.
