New organisation launched for cornea and ocular surface specialists
A new pan-European organisation for cornea and ocular surface specialists has been officially launched during the XXVII Congress of the ESCRS.
The new body, EuCornea (European Society of Cornea and Ocular Surface Disease Specialists), is designed to provide a forum for cornea specialists to exchange skills, knowledge and expertise.
“It is a real pleasure to launch this organisation during the ESCRS Congress and to invite all cornea and ocular surface experts around Europe to join us in helping to make this society a resounding success in the years ahead,” said Vincenzo Sarnicola MD, who will serve as EuCornea’s first president.
He paid tribute to the tireless work and vision of the other founding members of the society, Harminder Dua MD, who will serve as its vice-president, and Jose Guell MD and Francois Malecaze MD, who will both serve on the Board of the new society.
As well as supporting scientific research and education in the field of cornea and ocular surface disease, EuCornea’s aims include the holding of an annual scientific congress, the first of which will take place in Venice next June, the issuance of ethical standards and a code of ethics for members, as well as guidelines for subspecialty training in the fields of cornea and ocular surface disease.
Further details on EuCornea, its bye-laws and membership application forms are available at the EuCornea website: http://www.eucornea.org.
