EURETINA announces two retinal research grants
Prof Rufino Martins da Silva
EURETINA has announced two research grants at its 20th Virtual Congress.
“It is important to remember that the scope of EURETINA stretches far beyond the congress itself,” said EURETINA President Frank Holz announcing the grants. “Each year, we commit to investing in research, through the EURETINA Retinal Medicine Research Funding Call. Now in its second year, this initiative was introduced to support and encourage independent clinical research in the field of retinal medicine. We received a large volume of high-quality applications, which underwent critical review,” he said.
Grants have been awarded to the two highest scoring research applications to be funded by EURETINA in the coming year.
In 1st Place, the grant was awarded to Prof Rufino Martins da Silva, of AIBILI, Portugal for his project “Metabolomics: An Integrative Tool for Investigating the Pathogenesis of Age-related Macular Degeneration”. In 2nd place, Dr Gian Marco Tosi of University of Siena, Italy, was awarded a grant for his research project “The C-type lectin receptor CD93 as a new target in retinal vascular diseases”.
